Bristles Beat Foam
Disposable foam brushes are no substitute for real bristles when it comes to laying down a smooth coat of stain or finish.
Clean Before You Start
A new brush is not always a clean brush. Before using, dip the bristles into the proper solvent (mineral spirits for oil-based, water for water-based), then brush out the solvent and the dust onto a board or dropcloth.
Fan Your Brushes
To avoid bristles in your finish, be sure to fan a new brush and pull out loose bristles prior to use.
